generous portions

May 14 – Is it starvation that taught her how be so generous with her cooking?

Ludmilla lived through the Siege of Leningrad in that 7th floor apartment, which has been in her family for 103 years.

Today, how many times did she walk down the long hall-way between kitchen and dining room on her very sore legs, bringing the best of Russian food to me, including, of course, Herring Under a Blanket?

4 courses, 3 flights, 2 desserts and 1 deeply nourishing conversation later, we were sated, we embraced.
